A LED LCD TV  technically belongs to the LCD family.  However, the backlighting system used is quite different from what’s traditionally used. This is what gives it the numerous advantages it has over a conventional LCD television.

Led vs Lcd televisions…An LCD tv uses liquid crystals sandwiched between two glass panels to form images on the screen, which is where the name “Liquid Crystal Display” comes from.  Such happens when electricity passes through them. However, these crystals aren’t capable of illuminating themselves. That is why behind the display panel, fluorescent lights are used for illumination.

LED LCD TV – what exactly does that mean?

Light emitting diode – this is what LED stands for. As mentioned earlier, this television type, LED LCD TV, is still is technically considered an LCD.  But instead of fluorescent bulbs, light emitting diodes are used (LEDs). When the diodes are arranged throughout the back of the screen, it’s called full-array. On the other hand, it’s called edge-lit if the LEDs are arranged along the border of the display.

A LED LCD TV usually sports thinner profiles than conventional LCD units. But between full-array and edge-lit, “LED LCD tvs” the latter is usually much thinner. Some models are just slightly thinner than an inch, making them more suited for wall mounting.

LED LCD TV – Picture Quality

Picture quality of LED televisions is better because of improved contrast. With local dimming technology, individual diodes can be turned off where necessary, thereby producing deeper blacks. That’s something fluorescent lights aren’t capable of as their lighting can seep through, thus producing imperfect blacks.

Manufacturers claim that LED units are more energy efficient by up to 20 to 40 percent, especially with the case of edge-lit LED-LCD televisions. For budget-conscious consumers, investing in an LED TV can offer money-saving advantage in the long run.

Consumers who like to do their share of saving the planet, will also be glad to learn of the environmentally friendly features of a LED LCD TV.   Unlike fluorescent bulbs, LED TVs do not involve the use of mercury which can pollute our earth.  Carbon dioxide emission is also lower, reducing carbon footprint. And as mentioned earlier, these units also help minimize electricity use.

How DLP HDTV Has Overcome The Rainbow Effect

DLP HDTV – When digital light processing (DLP) technology was first introduced into televisions, many customers were dissatisfied due to a “rainbow effect” that was noticed when moving images included a lot of white against a dark or black background. This was caused by the use of a color wheel placed in front of the projecting mirrors to create the full color images. However DLP HDTV has been reworked to overcome this problem.

When manufacturers became aware of the problem, they took steps to correct it. One of the first was to increase the speed of the color wheels from one revolution per frame to 100. This cleaned the images up substantially, but a small percentage of people were still able to notice this effect in certain circumstances, especially in high action scenes such as in video games.

Another advance that seems to have solved the problem completely is the incorporation of a three chip DLP HDTV system into displays. Here, instead of a single chip per pixel and a color wheel designed to rotate and create the colors seen, each pixel is represented by three separate chips that each make up a single component of the color wheel; red, green, and blue.

Each chip modulates the light projection in the color band represented to achieve the exact percentage of its component so that the final projection is a true representation of the full color spectrum. Because the colors are created by three separate chips projected light in blended amounts, there is no rainbow effect caused by the spinning color wheel.

DLP HDTV Has Major Advances of LCD Tv’s

DLP HDTV has several advantages over traditional LCD and Plasma displays. Its one major drawback for many consumers was the rainbow effect created by the use of a spinning color wheel in high action scenes with large areas of white alternating with colors against a mainly black background. However, manufacturers have taken steps to solve this problem, rendering this one of the best options for HDTV.

What’s The Fuss About LED Versus LCD

Television, is just that to some people, for others it is more. The type of TV one chooses often depends on the persons inclination towards technology and their budget. The LCD TV has good resolution and to someone who doesn’t know a lot about them, it is a good buy. The LED on the other hand, has better resolution and other enhanced features that only a person who knows about these things can tell. It is a wise idea to learn about the good and bad about LED versus LCD.

The price gap between the two is significant right now but estimated to be non existent in the future. So you can get more quality for your money. At the moment, the LED costs almost double the price of the LCD. This will become obsolete in the future.

Everyone enjoys saving money. You can choose to save once off with the cost of the TV or you can go for the economic option and save for a long as you have the LED TV. This is because it uses much less energy than the LCD. If you have the TV constantly switched on, this is of great benefit and savings.

Mercury is used in the making of the LCD TV. This substance is toxic and very harmful to humans. This is what separates the LED from LCD and for environmentally conscious people this is a very valid and deciding factor in which type of TV they go for.

It is also a reflection of your personality. Some people are tech savvy and worry about the latest trend on the market as well as advanced features. Others just want a TV that looks good and they are able to watch movies on.

Most youngsters are very tech savvy. They know what is the best on the market and they don’t mind spending the asking price to have it. They obviously also have enough money to go around. Technology is not cheap and they know this.

The main focus of differentiation between LED and LCD is the way the two TV’s show the color black. The LCD shows it more as grey or not quite black due to the back lights that it uses to work. The LED shows a true black color as it uses other components to operate.

The LED has resolved this problem. This is why it is a more popular choice among the younger market. It also doesn’t use mercury in its manufacturing and it uses less energy . Which saves money. There are also other features that the LED holds, that are unique to it.

The choice is yours. You can go for the LCD with its good price bracket and decent resolution or you can choose the LED with its superior picture quality. Different strokes are for different folks. You will end up spending less in the long run with the LED. It is a wise idea to enlighten yourself about the differences between LED versus LCD to ensure that you know what you are buying the next time you walk into a TV store.

The Difference Between A 720p vs 1080p

I am still not sure about a few things like whether I should buy “720p vs 1080p” High Definition television. My problem is that since I am only buying a 32 inch HDTV, is it really worth paying the extra money to get the Full HD 1080p? I have heard that it’s really not necessary given the smaller size of the display and that the “resolution” will look about the same, at least to most people. Any advice?

720p vs 1080p – Size of HDTV

It is essentially true that televisions with smaller displays, can be hard to tell the difference between 720p or 1080p, at least from your average viewing distance. However you will hear various opinions on the “best size” for upgrading to Full 1080p. Some will say at 42 inches, others will say at 32 inches. However there really is no “best display size” for upgrading from 720p. The common belief is that the lines of pixels are located so close together in smaller display sizes, that from an average viewing distance, you would have a difficult time telling the difference between 720p vs 1080p “Full HD”.

When picking a television to have in your home, the characteristics between 720p vs 1080p may make all the difference in your decision. While both are great types of TVs they each have their own characters that can make them better for a different situation. However they are both HDTVs that will look wonderful in any home theater or business.

What does 720p stand for?

720p stands for the fact that it has 720 vertical lines of resolution on the monitor. While it has 720 lines vertically it also has 1280 horizontally. This type of television is refreshed at once; verses the older TVs that are refreshed odd lines and then even lines.

What does 1080p stand for?

1080p resolution on the other hand has 1080 lines vertically and 1920 horizontally. This is the highest type of resolution that there is. The price is quite expensive to many folks; it is a few hundred dollars.

Televisions are not always for just watching television. TV sets can also be used to watch movies on the computer (or the other way around) or play games from the computer onto your large HDTV. Both types of TVs can be set up to the computer through a VGA, HD or s cable in order to watch it on big screen. However, a 1080p TV set has a clearer picture than a 720p when hooked up to the computer.

720p vs 1080p – The price difference

Another major difference is the price between the two types. A 1080 TV costs a few couple hundred dollars extra more than a 720p TV. The price difference between the two is pretty big for a person who is watching their money. In some cases, the difference is not even worth the extra money.

When it comes to 720p vs 1080p if you are buying televisions that are less than 42 inches, the money difference is a big deal. The truth is that for TVs under this size, you cannot really tell the difference in the picture. The contrast looks pretty much the same and so does do the colors. For those with a couple extra hundred to spend than the 1080 is the way to go. Not only do you get higher resolution but can also hook it up the computer for a great view on your big screen.

720p vs 1080p – Tv or Computer Screen

There are not too many differences between 720p vs 1080p. The biggest differences of course would be the price as well as the picture when hooked up into the computer. While the 720p is not good for using the PC on the TV, the 1080p works wonders. However, be sure to remember that when fewer than 42 inches, the picture on screen is not that different.

The Advantages of Full 1080p HD

Full 1080p HD

Full HD is the name given to the 1080p video format. It is one of the two HD formats that are used in HD digital televisions. The alternative is 1080i; both formats provide a very detailed 1920×1080 pixel resolution. Here’s a more detailed look into 1080i vs 1080p formats.

“Full HD” provides a smoother video, with less artifacts and jagged images than 1080i. The 1080i format transmits the video in two fields consisting of 540 rows that move from the top down to the bottom part of the screen. The odd ones are transmitted first and the even ones second. Both fields make up a frame of 1080 rows of pixels, which are transmitted for 1/30 of a second. 1080p displays the odd and even fields simultaneously, which shows every pixel in the images at one time. It also has a frame rate of at least 1/60th of a second.

Different 1080p formats and frame refreshes

There are different formats within Full HD, that have various frame rates. 1080p/60 is most commonly used, and has a frame refresh rate of 1/60th of a second, 1080/30 has a frame refresh rate of 1/30th of a second and 1080/24 is 1/24th of a second. This process can be done by either the video player or by the television.

The p stands for progressive, whereas the i in 1080i stands for interlaced. This interlaced format uses the same method of displaying video as the older CRT monitors and televisions.

The primary advantage of 1080p vs 1080i is its ability to play fast moving videos smoothly. These may be action films or sporting events. However live HD broadcasts still use the 1080i format at present.

Advantages of 1080p in the Youtube and Movie World

The filming industry uses the 1080p/24 as standard during digital mastering. Blue Ray discs have the 1080p/60, 1080p/50 and 1080p/24 formats. YouTube now provides the option of 1080p resolution in many of its videos. The current generation of video gaming units also use the 1080p format, which gives gamers a smoother gaming experience. Full HD video recording is also an option on many of the DSLRs and high end compact cameras that are available currently, digital video cameras also use 1080p.

Full HD offers the smoothest frame rate and detail in any current video format. A LCD HDTV with 1080p is the best type of digital television currently available. Often the experience of using the two HD formats is minimal and wont usually be noticed with most video, but there is a noticeable improvement with videos that have the fastest refreshing frames.
