Whats the difference between an LCD tv and a LED tv?
Answer
I think it is the “E” and the “C”. Now that is funny! However not true. It’s all about the backlighting. LED is short for light emitting diode. It’s a light source. LCD is short for Liquid Crystal Display. The old tech, still being used and just as good is a LCD tv that uses a fluorescent backlight to light the LCD screen. LED TV is something just a little different. It’s quite simply a “LCD tv” that uses LEDs for the backlighting instead of fluorescent backlighting. Another way to look at it… There’s no such thing as a full led tv. There is only, at least right now, a lcd and lcd/led tv. The main difference is the backlighting. Where the older technology of backlighting is to use fluorescent bulbs, the new way is to use leds. Think of a string of christmas lights. There is a led in that tiny bulb. Only the leds in the tv are much smaller. The pros are a better picture, better at saving energy which in turns saves you money. There are many more differences. Plasma vs. LCD TV?
Answer – Plasma is the technology of old that utilizes special gases to give amazing picture quality. However that picture quality does not last. After about 2 weeks the amazingly solid perfect blacks will start to fade, as well as the other deeper colors. After about 6 months, the color of your plasma tv is hardly recognizable to the tv you bought 6 months ago. Where as LCD uses a newer technology called a liquid crystal display. Where each crystal represents a single pixel of the tv screen.
Once the backlighting of the LCD tv receives the proper information to display the right wavelength to each pixel, the current and voltage will be read by the LCD screen and each LCD pocket/pixel will use this information to literally change the shape of the crystal allowing only certain colors to enter. The picture quality is amazing and will not fade over time. LCD tvs cost less to run, use about half the energy, and even better…they use less heat and can utilize the newer technologies currently hitting the market. Such as those in the LG Infinia mentioned above. Technology of TVs have come a long ways and this HDTV LED Smart TV is simply amazing. So in the case of Plasma vs LCD – LCD definitely takes the cake.
