Samsung PN50C7000

Samsung PN50C7000 50in. Plasma HDTV

Samsung PN50C7000

This is Samsung’s 2nd most expensive Plasma TV of 2010. There are a couple of high points on this TV. It’s 3D compatible, we’ll get that in a little bit. It’s so vanishing thin and if you take a look at it from the side you’ll see it’s only 1.2 inches deep, so thin you might actually mistake it for a LCD TV, but it’s actually Plasma. The Samsung PN50C7000 is pretty slick in many other ways as well.

Around the edge you’ll find a matte/metallic finish and around that is a transparent edge, and also a transparent stand with a stainless steel top on the top of the stand. Like we said, it’s a pretty slick looking TV.

Feature wise the Samsung PN50C7000 has all the bells and whistles. There’s 3D as we mentioned, however this TV does not come with the required 3D glasses that are needed which run about $150. And of course you can’t use Samsung 3D glasses with any other TV, or visa versa. One the annoyances of any 3D TV, and you’ll need a pair of glasses for everyone in the family who wants to view 3D. The Samsung PN50C7000 also includes a 2D to 3D conversion system so you can watch everything in 3D if you desire. However that really didn’t work as well as we would of liked to see. Even made us a little sick when we tried it out. But we’ll touch on 3D performance in a little bit. First let’s take a look at some of the other pretty cool features.

The Samsung PN50C7000 has an extensive app selection. Which means that you can go into the menu and access a lot of internet services, some of the coolest are the streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon On Demand, Vudu, and many more. The Samsung PN50C7000 is also the first TV to offer HULU Plus. After a certain time period the exclusive rights to Samsung presenting HULU Plus we expire and we’re quite certain other TV manufactures will jump on the chance to offer it as well. However all in all the apps on the Samsung PN50C7000 are extremely compelling and highly recommended.

Other features on the Samsung PN50C7000 include a wealth of picture adjustments one being Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio. Basically unchallenged dynamic contrast that brings together the deepest of blacks and brightest whites. Strong 1080p Full HD resolution bringing out amazingly vivid colors. Reflection reducing coating on the inside of the panel to virtually guarantee no reflections will appear on your TV. That is something I just couldn’t get over.

Around back of the thin panel you’ll find 4 HDMI slots, one component video and PC connector to connect a LAN port and a few other goodies. All in all pretty good connectivity including 2 usb port for wifi adaptability and peripheral connectivity. When we took the Samsung PN50C7000 into the lab we were generally very impressed by it’s picture quality. It has a nice deep black level, the color accuracy is pretty darn good, and course the picture quality tweaks in the menu give you absolute control over what you see.

For 3D we actually like the quality of 3D effect for the Samsung PN50C7000 then we do over some of the other LCD 3D models of other various TVs we tried out earlier. It has much less “cross talk” we just means interference that causes a ghostly outline. You can’t expect all 3D movies to look great though. Different Movies produce different results. Something we hope Samsung and the other TV manufacturers someday come to an agreement over. But we’re hopeful they’ll finally come up with a standard. In general though, 3D, picture quality, sounds, and all the impressive apps make the Samsung PN50C7000 a really nice Plasma TV.
